Today, February 1st, is historically regarded as being the first day of spring here in Ireland, spring is known as Imbolc in ancient Ireland.

February 1st is also Saint Brigid's Day, Saint Brigid is one of Ireland's three patron saints along with Saint Patrick and Saint Columcille.

Today in partnership Black Mountain Shared Space Project 2020, Newhill, Springhill Community House and Healthy Living Centre had a coffee morning, workshops and lunch in Quaker Cottage on the Black Mountain. There was around 60 women who attended and made 2 variations of the St Brigid's cross, they turned out great, well done all who made them.

These crosses traditionally were hung over the doorway of houses as protection against fire and evil spirits.
